5 Days Walking via Lockerbie

VIA LOCKERBIE – 50 mile (80.5 km)

All walking tours should only be tackled if you are a fit walker with well worn in boots and this itinerary allows you a more leisurely walk with the longest day of walking totalling 13.5 miles/21.75 km. Having walked the trail ourselves, then we can advise that it is definitely achievable.  The highlight of the tour, in our opinion, is the climb up the Devil’s Beef Tub on your first day’s walking whilst you are staying in the lovely town of Moffat.

Day 1 Arrive Moffat With good public transport links, arrive into the lovely Borders town of Moffat
Day 2 The Devil’s Beef Tub, Moffat

The circumnavigation of the Devil’s Beef Tub involves steep though safe climbs. This excellent days walking is worth it for the spectacular views as you reach the source of the River Annan.

Deer and wildlife abound on this stage as you walk through Roman countryside and meet up with the ‘Crooked Road’ to St Ann’s
Day 4 St Ann’s to Lockerbie

From St Ann’s you walk through pastureland and plantations on your way to the town of Lockerbie. You have the chance to visit the famous Lockerbie Memorial Garden, well worth a visit and very humbling indeed.

Extra Nights/Rest Days : many people take an extra night at the stage of Moffat for a day of rest and relaxation. It is said to be “All quiet in Moffat ….still popular for its gardens, shops, the Grey Mare’s Tail waterfall and Colvin Fountain and as a classic Victorian spa town and for its boating pond and sweet shop.”
